Forgive my novice but what is Sony Catalyis & Production Suite?
on Feb 3, 2016 at 3:03:47 am

Right now I'm using Vegas as NLE and Davinci Resolve to do color grading. Looking at buying Hitfilm Pro do do effects on my videos.

I see HitFilm offers a bundle called HitFilm Studio which comes bundled with HitFilm Pro & Sony Catalyst Production Suite.

I'm a bit confused, what is Sony Catalyst Production Suite? How is it different than Vegas?

Having a hard time seeing how all these tools fit into a workflow and want to be careful not to purchase too many capabilities I already have in Vegas.

[Matthew Jeschke] "I see HitFilm offers a bundle called HitFilm Studio which comes bundled with HitFilm Pro & Sony Catalyst Production Suite."
Sony also offers a bundle called Vegas Pro 13 Suite that includes HitFilm 3 Pro and many others tools like Production Assistant, Sound Forge Pro, DVD Architect Pro, iZotope Nectar Elements, etc. If you are already a Vegas Pro editor and want to work with Hit Film, this is probably what you want to buy.
[Matthew Jeschke] "I'm a bit confused, what is Sony Catalyst Production Suite?"
Sony Catalyst Production Suite is Catalyst Edit and Catalyst Prepare bundled together.
[Matthew Jeschke] "How is it different than Vegas?"
Catalyst Suite is a new line of products initially aimed at the broadcast industry. It doesn't have all of the capabilities of Vegas Pro but according to Sony, it isn't meant to be a replacement for Vegas Pro.

Unless you are shooting 4K footage formats that Catalyst can ingest and Vegas Pro cannot, there is no really reason to buy it if you are already using Vegas Pro.
