now that I'm in it - i rather can't wait for that update. half just for the proper bezier masking tools. I find I'm weirdly excited by that. Should be possible now to do really quite nice quick dodge and burn grades, bang speedgrade look on top. I really can't believe where premiere has gotten to.

I have to admit, I watched the new features video.

Project manager
Render and replace
Media browser improvements
Multi-Project
GoPro Codec

All unquestionably improvements. Not so sure about other apps yet, but PPro looks great.

No intentions of submitting to Adobe slavery, but I am jealous.

Yep, would love to give Adobe my money. Too bad they don't want it.

[David Lawrence] "It's never been about money. ;)"

My reluctance not to join is part financial (over the long term) but mainly because of a certain "risk" factor coupled with no control or exit strategy.

The "risk" is the potential of the cost going up or a product or service getting axed or no longer being supported. Then there is the sales pitch strategy of you need this or that. Retailers love to do this with electronics, asking you if you want (and sometimes but not always a bit pushy) about an extended service plan. In some situations it might come in handy but not always. There are some who might sign up for it to avoid being "rude", been there myself. Perhaps there is the cost factor for the business. This might be a reason for Adobe and others to have customers sign up for the suite of most, if not all, services and products.

I used to work in retail and did not like having to "push" someone to apply for a store credit card. Some people like the idea of some rewards program. For me, just want the item in stock, have the clerk ask me if I am interested in a rewards program and that be the end of it should my answer be no, and get fast service. Is that really asking too much?

I think some store associates get a little too "pushy" because of some incentive the store gives them for people signing up. Just an observation. My thoughts on the subject.

It was never a question (in my eyes), if the software is good or not.
I simply will never rent my tool.
I won´t pay them, if I loose the full access to my work, if I stop paying.
That simple.

Doesn't look like you can keyframe the bezier mattes to change over time, which would be the Grail. Still, I'll take the improvements!

You can animate bezier masks over time. Fully supported.

I wonder, if your soul can be saved - seems you´re lost :)
As long as you only praise the features - it´s OK for me (as most of us know - the Apps themselves are great).
But if you will ever start to praise the way of distribution, I would answer with that song title from Nazareth (1977), Expect no ....

I'm more impressed about where you've gotten to more so than Adobe (though the new updates to CC do look great). This new Gallagher 2.0 (or Gallagher 2014) is making my brain melt! :-)

I like the software - we all do. And I really, really had no intention of buying it, but the situation I got into was super duper time critical. I had literally no options.

So now that I bought a year of it, I might as well enjoy it right? No point making a face every time I open an app - and the software orgy is kind of fun in a ridiculous way.

i still think the way they're going about it is a lousy idea, and there are better options available to them, but i'm not going to carp as much now that I rented the thing for a year.

Sure, why not? Enjoy your premium sports television, too!

Now, who was it who mentioned that? Hmmmm......

ah now dave. I really was backed into the thing. super duper stressful 30 minutes on delivery day unable to access work done on client materials.

word to the wise as it were - on client machines running current CC, with each passing release you are multiple installs away from reverse CS6 AE compatability.

In their case half the install was done via DMG and the CC app didn't recognise a previous install for AE. at which point:

well yes, and some of the stuff in it is gaga.

I just used the speedgrade luts built in on a sports promo off an adjustment layer - those things are nice, cinematic 2 is grand recipe - and it plays realtime off an old mac tower playing mxf? curves per clip to balance the lut for shot to shot works a treat. some of the built in available power in the thing is nuts.
