We've exhausted the topic waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I like the WWDC interlude. At least we know there is something besides Adobe out there. I think it gave Adobe something more to think about as well.

Want to bet there's a writer at some PR agency somewhere who's been given the spicific mission to write the quip that tries to top Phil Schiller's line.

"Apple can't innovate anymore, my ass."

I just wouldn't want to be that scribe.

I can top it by just taking away a punctuation mark, and adding a word:

"Apple can't innovate any more than my ass."

Just an exercise, not an opinion, although Mr. Ive should really give credit for the design inspiration to the Braun lighter of the Sixties:

Sigh,

Yes, I understand the concept.

Everything Apple has EVER done is derivative. Somebody else has ALWAYS done it first, better, cheaper and more cleverly.

They've built their business on smoke and mirrors and chutzpa and without Xerox and Bill Gates and Braun and Edison and freekin Piny the Elder and without all of that - Apple would be nothing, I tell you -- NOTHING!

Yes, Virginia, there's a deep, crystalized need in some to push back against the concept that Apple ever has or ever will get anything right.

Unfortunately for that view, there is a vast army of people spread around our planet that get their hands on these devices and programs and use them every day and (perish the thought!) are actually satisfied by the experience.

Those 94% plus Apple customer satisfaction metrics that Tim Cook showed this week? Clearly an indication that the "fanboys" are all FOOLS, I tell you. Absolute Fools.

And somebody, gosh darn-it, has just got to convince those idiots just how dumb they are to be satisfied with things that... uh, well - make them happy.

So there.

It was a joke, Bill...you don't have to go on about derivative or not derivative. Everything ever created is derivative. Music is derivative from bird song. Computers are derivative from adding machines. If you're happy with your Mac, clap your hands...

They will when they realise Opencl is only going to be in CC - not CS6. So want Mercury engine on a Tube? Going to have to fold and make adobe part of your monthly bills forever.. or am I missing something?

We're trying to change their outlook on the rental model here. Hopefully CC will not be the only way to get benefits if enough people reject the rental model. OpenCL is supported on CS6 Premiere, or so I am told. I have an NVidia card in my Mac Pro 2010. It is the dual or multiple graphics cards of the new Mac Pro that are supported in CC only.

Adobe is announcing major OpenCL support in their applications at WWDC this week. They can see the writing on the wall in the Mac environment. Then new Mac Pro will push many developers toward better OpenCL support with it's powerful AMD graphics cards.

Jim -

It appears that Adobe CC has totally embraced OpenCL:

http://www.fireprographics.com/adobe/

I would imagine that Nvidia might not be too happy about it, but it makes perfect sense to not cut Mac users out of using the GPU for efficiency. It may also sell a few more seats of the CC as well. Although as much as I don't like the design of the new Mac Pro, it looks to be one kick-ass little torpedo...

It certainly did, but it was pretty glitchy, at least on my Macbook Pro. I don't know if it ever got fixed, because I was pretty much fine with keeping it in software.

For me, the most frustrating thing about the OpenCL approach is Raytracing in AE. Until that is somehow ported to OpenCL (which apparently would be quite a difficult thing to do), I can't really make the switch from my NVIDIA stuff.
