Re: New Mac Pro with AMD GPUs and now?
Mon Jun 10, 2013 7:33 pm

Hi,

We have been testing with DaVinci Resolve 10 builds and this screams. Its amazing and those GPUs are incredible powerful. I am not sure what I can say as I am only going off what Apple has talked about publicly here in the keynote for what I can say right now, however there is a whole new OpenCL and DaVinci Resolve 10 has had a lot of performance work done to integrate it and its really really fast. Those GPUs are very powerful and have lots of GPU memory so this is the Mac we have been waiting for! We have lots of Thunderbolt products too so video in and out is taken care of.

We will have more details once the guys get back from WWDC and we get some more info from Apple on what we can talk about etc.

Overall we could not be happier!

Interesting that a company whose technology will now be outside of the CPU box permanently, and dependent on a Thunderbolt daisy chain of other devices, including GPUs is happy about this. They must know something I don't.

I talked to the lead tech at the company that builds my XEON workstations (Windows), including 2 that include Black Magic cards. He's skeptical about bottle necks with all that "stuff" outside of a PCIe port.

[Chris Pettit] "They must know something I don't."

Since they appear to actually have a prototype, I would guess that they do. ;-)

Well of course they're happy, now everybody that bought the pci-e blackmagic card are going to be buying the tb version.

Or they'll be buying a TB-PCIe chassis for $350... Perahps BM will acquire a TB chassis company so they'll have one available before the MP ships... ;-)

One thing it indicates is that they will be able to use beau coup nodes in Resolve.
