As of right now- 2:00 a.m. Pacific time on May 17- the petition to end the "cloud only" requirement has over 15,000 signatures on it.
While that number may not seem very significant in the grand scheme of things, it's still quite astounding if you think about it.
To put things in perspective: The Staples Center in L.A., where the Lakers play, has a capacity of 18,118. So if everyone who signed that petition went to a Lakers game, there would only be 3,000 seats left over. If they all went to Petco Park here in San Diego, over a third of the seats would be filled.
I know some people think this petition thing is pointless- and it really is unlikely that it's going to accomplish the exact goal that is stated on it. But the more people sign it the more visible this issue will become. The chances of that can only get better now that the number of signatures on it can be described in terms of pro sports stadium capacities.
"Up until here, we still have enough track to stop the locomotive before it plunges into the ravine... But after this windmill it's the future or bust."
