CS6 installer has changed after the coming of CC

We have purchased Production Premium CS6 in order to not be dependant on a subscription model - but realized that Adobe has changed the serial numbers, so they do not work with older installers.

We called Adobe support and they told us we have to download the installer from EACH machine and install directly, instead of relying on a centrally stored installer.

I suspect Adobe has done this in order to be able to control when and if we can install the CS6 software, and this makes me very uncomfortable...!

[Morten Ranmar] "I suspect Adobe has done this in order to be able to control when and if we can install the CS6 software, and this makes me very uncomfortable...!"

This whole angst thing is starting to get a bit silly now, don't you think?

These "serial" numbers seem to be unique, and could potentially be used to track us!

I recommend bringing questions and issues about downloading, installation, and activation to this forum, where the right Adobe folks can help you:

[Morten Ranmar] "We called Adobe support and they told us we have to download the installer from EACH machine and install directly, instead of relying on a centrally stored installer. "

Sounds like they are trying to make perpetual licenses as difficult and unattractive to use as possible. Did you confirm that this was actually the case?

[Oliver Peters] Sounds like they are trying to make perpetual licenses as difficult and unattractive to use as possible.

A better analysis would be that they are making the perpetual licenses as difficult and unattractive to use as the Cloud versions- because from what I've read, the situation Morten describes (having to download to each machine) is also required if you're on a subscription.

I think they changed the way of issuing license numbers to correspond to CC. But for multiple seats it seems a bit stupid that I have to download the installer separately from each machine!

So if you have a few machines and slow Internet, you are in for a painful time.

Wow! That will make the life of the IT guy in larger facilities a regular nightmare, isn't it?

I am not aware of any change whatsoever to how the perpetually licensed CS6 software is installed and activated. I _could_ be wrong, but I don't think that there has been any such change. If there were, I would know, since I am one of the people who tests such things for After Effects.

As I said in my previous post, there's a forum on the Adobe website where the experts on installers and activation are available to answer questions. I recommend asking there.

BTW, there are tools from Adobe for managing multiple installations within a facility. You can get information about those here:
