Adobe rescinding CS 6 licenses??
on Aug 25, 2016 at 9:56:55 pm

Been on CC for several months and have run the updates (which also include CS 6 updates). I typically don't have my edit computer on the internet...and surprise today!!, when I opened up an image in Photoshop CS 6, it gave me a message from Adobe saying that I needed to reauthorize it or it would deactivate on Dec. 3. This is CS 6, not CC. How can Adobe "deauthorize" the CS 6 software that I paid full freight for? Is it because I used the update dropdown feature in CC to update my CS6? A new 'gotcha' hidden in the licensing??

Call Adobe support and ask.

Whatever the case get the official Adobe word on it and a URL link to the thing in writing before misunderstandings escalate.

Use plain speech. Ask three times with three different wordings.

Make sure you know what they are saying.

[Greg Pasztor] "Been on CC for several months and have run the updates (which also include CS 6 updates). . I typically don't have my edit computer on the internet

So you got CS6 as apart of the CC and you don't have that machine tied to the Internet? In order for the CC to work it has to checkin with Adobe. If you are on a month-to-month contract it has to check in once a month in order to validate your license. If you're on an annual contract I believe it has to check in every 99 days to validate your license. So that computer will need to have an internet connection at least occasionally in order to maintain a valid copy of CC on it.

No. This has been standard practice since the CC started in 2011. It may be news to you, but it's easily researchable:

Now if you have a disc copy of CS6, I'd recommend you install that with the serial number/key on a separate partition. If you download CS6 through CC (even if you have a disc copy) you're still using the CC version of CS6. Therefore, you'll be required to check-in and maintain your license via the Internet.

Thanks Adrian & Ryan.
I had installed my disc version of CS6 prior to subscribing to CC. As Ryan said, I should have installed it on a partition to avoid the CC licensing issue. I still feel like they 'hijacked' my CS6 license, but I will never have the time this lifetime to read licensing agreements. If I drop CC in the future I'll just reinstall from the disc. Adobe could play nice with its customers by giving them a warning...say a nice little popup that tells you "By updating your CS6 through Creative Cloud, you will be bound by the subscription service agreement for CC when you use your updated CS applications" or some such. Probably too much to ask when you're busy trying to max out subscriptions.

[Greg Pasztor] "I still feel like they 'hijacked' my CS6 license"

Well, your feelings are simply wrong. You are using CS6 through your CC subscription. You can still use your disc-based version if you ever need to, at most requiring a a full CC uninstall/clean and a re-install.

Have you tried contacting Adobe to get the situation worked out? It could just be a simple computer error, not some sort of nefarious plot on Adobe's part. I've read about licensing hiccups for both Avid and Adobe when the end user has had a mix of subscription and perpetual license copies of software on their machines.

This also happened to me and I didnt even have cc. Had to uninstall an reinstall but this time i noticed when updating that adobe gave a choice of going through cc so I clicked no and had no problems.
