Been contemplating switching to it but want to know if anyone here uses it. Looks promising, even with the high price of admission. Not having to round trip as much is nice.

What sort of work do you want to do with it?

If you already own NUKE or NUKEX, there's a 50% discount on NUKE STUDIO upgrades through the end of the year:

If you're looking to learn at your own pace, there's NUKE Non-Commercial, with a limited license (no paying work, HD resolution limit, some nodes/scripting restrictions, and encrypted project files that cannot be read by the commercial edition):
