I am trying to create a logo for my YouTube channel. I do not have a graphic design background but have a knack for learning Creative Cloud Apps.
I've worked with people who use different apps to do different things. An old Program Director for college football games I worked with used Photoshop for player graphics. He could have also used illustrator, if I am correct.
As far as.....
1.designing logos and
2.creating text for video (along lines of player graphics)
....what do you all recommend?
If my logo idea is simple enough, would you advise I learn illustrator or make my logo on a different app? Thanks for any feedback, Creative Cow is great.
If you're creating a logo for broad usage, and aren't sure whether it might be placed on large signage, or on a banner at a trade show, you would want to create it in a vector-based software package, such as Illustrator. The reason being, vectors are mathematical descriptions of the art, and can thus be made any size without quality loss (pixelation).
If you know your logo is never going to be bigger than a YouTube video, say 1920 x 1080, then you would be safe creating it in a raster, or pixel-based software package, such as Photoshop. In pixel-based graphics, the size the graphic is created at is about as good as it's going to get. You can size it down just fine, but sizing it up will begin creating pixelation at some point.
When I do a logo design for a client, I always start in Illustrator. That way, I can deliver any size the client wants with no quality loss.
