Windows 2012 - 8.1 Box File Sharing

Hello,
I currently have a Server 2012 box. It has 2x 10 gigabit Ethernet NICs (RJ45 Cat 6) currently. I am planning on building a new workstation that would also have 2x 10 gigabit Ethernet links (RJ45 Cat 6). I would like to connect these two systems together using a crossover cables, but then I wondered how I could turn these two connections into a 20 gigabit link. So one is a Server 2012 box, and my workstation will be a box running Win 8.1. I will be using SMB 3 to share files between them. Does anyone know how this could be setup/configured? Again, there would be two Cat 6 crossover cables connecting them together.
Thanks,
Steven

Unlike Windows Server OS editions, Win8 doesn't support NIC teaming or MPIO, AFAIK.

I do this on Mac's all day long, not on Windows computers. But to my knowledge, Windows 7 and Windows 8 do NOT support bonding of ports. This is controlled by the DRIVERS of the 10Gig cards that you are using. So if you were to use an ATTO or Myricom or Solarflare or Intel card (for example, once you install the drivers for this card, the ability to create a LAG would be available to you.

SO, what about the 10gig ports that you already have - I have no idea - you have to research what cards they are (or what chip sets they are). Easy solution - buy a PCIe card that supports this, from one of the companies I just listed above.

Steven,

What Bob said.. - what Bob says is good.

PLUS...

Take my advice too.

Go look at PCShare from HELIOS.de -
If you have Mac's check out EtherShare -

This will let you get some nice speed transfers. Among other things.

Feel free to post back on your findings.
I'll be here waiting.
