Our latest video on comparing the Cinema Camera and the Canon 5D Mark III is finally up on Vimeo (took DAYS to finally get it up). Ultimately it's a little more compressed than we'd like, but it's better than nothing.

Join us this Tuesday night in Boston at the BOSCPUG event where we'll be showing this video (and much more) in ProRes4444 on a 2K Christie projector. I'll also be discussing workflow tips, specifically in regards to RAW, pre and post shooting. Hope to see you there!

Hello Marco,
nice video and nice audio (the Solorio's soundtrack is amazing). I can't download the original MP4; is this due to my vimeo account (standard)?
On the compressed video (streaming) the difference between the two cameras is embarrassing!

Paolo,

Although I am on a standard Vimeo account, I was able to download it.

When you click on "download", it opens another box below it, where you can choose to download SD, HD, and "original" MP4 files. I missed it at first too, and was wondering the same thing you were.

If that doesn't work, try a different browser. It worked in Chrome and IE9 for me.

Hi Alex,
my problem was that clicking on "Original .MP4 file (1920x1080 / 1GB)" I got a message "You are not allowed to download this file" (or this was the meaning), but I could download the other 2 ones.
Today I tried again, and with Firefox I did not get that message, but the download didn't started. At the end, using Chrome, the download started (it says 1 hour).

Thanks,

Hi Marco,

Again, a very thorough and informative test. I found the rolling shutter test to be particularly surprising. After having seen your texting short I was very impressed with the performance of the BMCC's rolling shutter but after seeing your test here it really makes it revealing about what limitations we are exactly dealing with. In fairness though, BMD never claimed to make a rolling shutter marvel so I hold no ill will. The fact still remains that there are ways around everything. Someone who is used to shooting on a DSLR will use their experience with the BMCC and I believe will be very pleased.

As for the image, I was very impressed with the overall performance. I watched on a 50" Panasonic plasma so I was able to really see minute details. The overall sharpness, highlight control, and dynamic range of the BMCC though was definitely what I had expected if not better. Low light was also surprisingly good having heard so much from BMD that it is not a "low light" camera. No, it's not designed to see in the dark but it certainly can be pushed.

I think it goes to show that if you understand its limitations, there is a world of possibility with this camera.

Hi Marco: Thanks so much for creating this comparison video and sharing your results. Very informative! Now, if my BMCC would only arrive ... !
