How See Recorded Timecode on URSA?
on Nov 12, 2014 at 3:41:05 pm

Just received our URSA. I understand URSA records TOD code, but it doesn't seem to display it. What comes up is the time counted from the start of each clip, not the actual timecode. Is there a way to display the actual TOD timecode being recorded?

I spoke with BM support and was told this will be in an upcoming FW update. Currently, the URSA records TOD code as set in the menu, but only displays time from the beginning of the clip being recorded. For the time being, we'll use a Timecode Buddy: wifi to broadcast TOD code set the same as the URSA's. It'll be off by a second or so, but close enough for logging.n I hope this comes sooner than later.

Something you might want to consider is a new product by Microframe called the Sync Master. It's both a visual time code device and SMPTE generator that jam syncs for over 8 hours with amazing accuracy. No wireless antennas like Timecode Buddy. At a fraction of the price compared to the Lockit Box, it's a great value for syncing multiple cameras to audio in any production.

You might want to contact them about demos. I heard several weeks ago they were launching a demo campaign.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link. It's an interesting device. My only concern is whether it generates sync along with timecode. I couldn't find that info on their site. Just syncing code doesn't ensure tracks don't drift. Only syncing timecode while gen-locking all cameras at the same time guarantees hard lock. Timecode Buddy and similar devices do just that. They output both code and ref sync and all is good in sync land.
