Can't import HD100 24p footage into FCP 5.1.4 Is there another way other than Imovie?

Final cut has always been wishy washy importing. I'm tired of playing around with it. I have been able to import footage before 720/24p using the regular setting

Device Control: Firewire Basic
Capture Input: DV NTSC 48KHZ

It doesn't work anymore. So I changed the setting to HDV 24p/720 etc, there was communication with the camera and computer, but no image on my capture window.

I have tried importing the footage into Imovie, but everything seems to come in at 16fps (though the Qt files say 59.97) what the hell.

Is there some other third party app that just imports the goddamn m2t files? all this runaround is driving me nuts!
Thanks so much in advance for any help.

Warner

Yes, FCP has been always doing that for the HD100. Premiere Pro works just fine but you can use this system:

- Search for the Apple FireWire SDK. Don't worry, you don't need to mess with programming.
- Install the SDK, inside there is an application called DVHSCap. Very easy to use. It can capture the footage from the camera directly. You will end up with one of more .m2t files
- Search the web for MPEGStreamClip. This free program converts .m2t file to a QT file with you choice of code.
- In MPEGStreamClip set the frame rate to 23.976, uncheck "Interlace scaling", uncheck "Reinterlace Chome", select 12870x720 (unscaled) and save the file. You will end up with a QT clip.
- Import the clip in FCP, be happy ;)

Hope this helps.

Paolo,
Funny just yesterday I was looking up your scene file recipes on cinematography.com Thanks so much for the helpful response. I found the SDK. I already have mpegstreamclip so half the problem is solved, I will test it tomorrow. Again, thank you so much for the help! I really appreciate it.

Hi Paolo,
I looked on your site and could only find the TrueColor setting for the 250. Do you still have the HD100/HD111 settings? Or will the 250 settings be ok?

Hey Gary, thank you for the "heads-up". I fixed it. The HD-100 and Hd-200 use two different color matrices so you cannot interchange the formats. Look in the TrueColor section and use the configuration shown in Part 3.

Best.
