New JVC 1080P XDCAM and QT camera announced
on Jan 8, 2009 at 3:29:02 pm

I own a JVC HD-110, so I was interested in the brand new (available in April) camera announcement at MacWorld yesterday. The GY-HD100. It's the size and look of a Panny HVX-200, has 1/4" chips, but (que the drumroll)it records directly to SD cards in 1080i, 1080P, and 720P. It weighs 4 pounds. Oh, the bigger news, it licensed the XDCAM
format from Sony, so it records either direct to QuickTime (another licensing deal) or to XDCAM. Wow! The QT deal is why they
announced the camera at MacWorld.

Really looks nice and small. I hope the low light & image is good - if so really seams like the perfect 1 man band / must travel in dangerous / private / unassuming / micro set-up sorta camera....

Hard to imagine only 30 years ago shooting with an Eclair 16mm.

Thanks,
Harry

And there'll be a bigger, shoulder mount version (in April I think), the 700. No info on that one though.

No pictures of the 700 yet, but here's the JVC press release:

The bigger shoulder mount version has 1/3 prog chips, and a removable lens by Canon, uses the XDCAM 35compression to either SxS or cheaper SD cards...

the JVC board at DVINFO . NET has more info and even a JVC rep who is posting.

There also was a pic of the new 700 on the dvinfo.net website, and a link to the Australian JVC website showing the pic. Both have been removed. Hmmm....
Makes me wonder if it was a pic of a prototype that shouldn't have been released to the public.
To those that didn't see it, the new camera looks a lot like the 200/250 line. The body is smoother (no tape control buttons) and it had a iPod-like control device on the left side. Very interesting design.
