Odd frame rates out of Encoder (set at 60p, comes out 51.2)
on Apr 4, 2013 at 2:26:45 pm

I have I file I need to encode in order to play off of a BrightSign player. We are testing different resolutions, but the file needs to be 60p. The source is coming out of Avid and I've tried doing Same as Source (giving me a file that is DNxHD145) and ProRes 422HQ. I've tried encoding both of those files through Encoder at 60p but each time it ends up at 51.2fps (I see this when I open the files in Quicktime).

For settings, I'm encoding the files h.264, main concept level 4.1, VBR-2 pass with a max of 25Mbps.

If anyone knows why these are coming out at such a weird fps, and how I could get them to actually stay at the 60p I set them at I would really appreciate it. Let me know if you need more information to help troubleshoot.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't trust quick time to give you accurate info.

Install MediaInfo and see what that says.

Also what does it say the frame rate is if you drop it back into ME or Prem/AE?

Check both the source and the output files for frame rates, it could be the source is in fact wrong.

The source files out of my Media Composer are 29.97, the program was onlined at 1080p. There are 3 resolutions we are testing and oddly enough one came out at 60 and two came out at 51.199. I dropped the outputs into AE as suggested.

1360x768 results in 51.199
1280x768 results in 51.199
1280x720 results in 60

Are you using ME to covert 29.97fps content to 60fps?

Yes, I wasn't able to export 60p out of Media Composer so I basically did a Same as Source export from MC to create my source. That source is 29.97 and was brought into Encoder where I set the output fps to 60.

Strange, I exported a 10 second test from AE at 1920x1080 at 29.97 uncompressed and then used ME to compress it as per your settings. I can only assume with you using the 4.1 constraint that you aren't doing 1080p?

At 720p it did 60fps on the dot, no issues.

Can you export uncompressed at all and try that?
