SyddyS: I have a 250GB SATA system drive, and two 250GB SATA drives put in a RAID0 config.SyddyS
I think that the objective in the DIY configurations is to get metrics on specifics like dual-core advantages, the Inetl/AMD race and such. It is therefore probably somewhat irrelevant to benchmark things like system drives that are likely to have already been benchmarked by places like Tom's Hardware. I'm sure that Videoguys has a budget to work within just like the rest of us and that probably figures in to to determining what the whole configuration is.
On the system drive issue, what I did with my near Green clone was to use the Raptor 10k rpm 80Gb drive as a boot drive. It would be nice to have the extra raw disk space on the boot drive for simple storage but I have another collective Tby networked in to use for that.
Do you remember the days when a 20MegaBy MFM drive on your IBM XT clone with a 1.33MHz clock was a status symbol and memory cost $1,000/Mb?
