I read a post about a guy wanting to do a 120' run and there wasn't a resolution as to whether it could be done or not.
I am wanting to use a 25-30' firewire cable (preferrably without repeaters) and I was wondering if any problems would arise. Avid Xpress doesn't support a cable longer than 15'.
My intention is to record directly to a pc via firewire (xpress, premiere dv rack, whatever), but not have to be right there all the time.
I've been looking around and there seems to be a huge jump in prices for 30' cables.
Newegg has some 6/4 firewire cables in 30'ish lengths for like $10 (a 25' sanmax even has gold connectors). On the other hand, people are selling Laird and similar brands (videoguys even had a 30' for $50) in the $60-$75 range.
Is there a quality difference between these that anyone has ever seen?
For $15 ($10+$5 shipping), I'm thinking about just ordering one and throwing it away if it doesn't work.
