Hi... some questions about a new build..
on Apr 6, 2006 at 11:59:50 am

Hi, a few 1st build questions on an ASUS PCH-DL mobo based A/V editing system I am building:

*Do I need a firewire card (i.e. PYRO PCI 64) or can I just use the firewire on the board? It's for editing with Avid DV Express and/or Express Pro platform. Does anyone have any first hand experience of using such boards for editing with Avid?

*Do I need a raid card or can I run directly from on-board raid controller?

*Can I use SATA drives on the raid? Or normal ULTRA DMA IDE drives?

*If I used SATA drives, what real benefits would they give me?

*Are there any particular drives I should look out for that are proven and tested long lifespan drives?

Thanks in advance
JD

You can use both onboard firewire and RAID controller.

I suggest SATA drives if you're buying new drives.

Hard Drive life spans can be a big debate. Any drive you buy could die in 3 years or 23 years. Just look for the best priced drive w/ the best warranty.

Oh Videoguys--- can we get spellcheck as an option???
