Matrox P450 vs. Matrox P650 for Matrox RTX.10?
on Feb 26, 2005 at 5:49:36 pm

Is a Matrox P450 sufficient to fully utilize the abilities of a matrox RTX.10 or is something like a Matrox P650 really necessary?

Also, what sort of perceptible differences would I gain from a P650 vs. a P450, when used with Adobe Premier Pro 1.0 and a Matrox RTX.10?

Thanks in advance!

you will see no gain for video editing. The 650 is an improved graphics card with overall better performance, but this has nothing to do with video ediitng.

Will the 16 MB P450 hold back any of the potential of the RTX.10?

Also, I've currently got an Nvidia Quadro4 280 NVS with 64MB of memory.

How would this compare to the P450 / P650?

And, most importantly, are there any incompatability problems between the Nvidia graphics card and the Matrox RTX.10?

Your insights are greatly appreciated!

The RTX10 does not rely on the graphics card at all. Premiere Pro will find th1 16megs restricting. We recommend the Quadro4 280 very highly. Put it in and edit away!

If you had to choose between using the Matrox P450 and Nvidia Quadro4 280 NVS for use with the Matrox RTX.10, which would you choose?

For example, is image quality "tuned" for use with a Matrox video card?

Thanks in advance for your insights; they are very much appreciated!

There is absolutely no benefit to the 450 card over the quadro with the rtx10.

The graphics card has no impact what-so-ever on the video quality.

"Premiere Pro will find the 16megs restricting."

Is this only true if I am not using the Matrox RTX.10, or is it also true even if I am using the RTX.10 for hardware acceleration?

For Premeire pro you want a min of a 32 meg graphics card - I wouldn't run it with less than 64.

Is this true even with the Matrox RTX.10 doing all of the acceleration?

The graphcs card has nothing to do with the editing performance / acceleration of the rtx10.

You need the memory in order to handle everything going on in the Premiere Pro interface and the preview windows. If your graphics card doesn't have enough memory to handle it, then the editing interface can become sluggish and you may run into stability issues with longer/ more complex projects.

Would using 16 bit color, rather than 32 bit color, relieve the load on a 16 MB Matrox G450?

What about using a single monitor, rather than dual monitors?

I can't be any clearer. We don't recommend a 16 meg graphics card with Premeire pro. You are welcome to try it and hope that it works. If it does, congratualtions. If it doesn't, you'll just have to buy a better graphics card.
