help -thermaltake heatsinks not fitting pch-dl motherboard??
on Mar 18, 2006 at 1:21:54 am

HI, I wonder if anyone can help. Just started building my first ever computer and hey presto...problem straight away. The Heatsinks don't seem to fit the board.

I have thermaltake a1608 heatsink x 2
PCH-DL motherboard.

The heatsinks have the no tool needed clips and I am worried to push them too hard into the MB in case it snaps it. I have already tried what I consider to be enough pressure to know that I am not sure I should push harder or find out if they are compatible.

If they do fit I am guessing they would make the metal back-plates redundant. Is this a good thing?

Of course...any help would be most appreciated. I humbly thank you in advance.

Sat waiting, to see if anyone responds!!!

A little thing I have done was to install the fan WITHOUT the CPU in place (call it a dry run to give you some experience and to verify hole placement) I place a piece of cardboard in it's place.
I do that to save the agony of getting the heat compound all over the place when I am trying to figure out how everything fits.

If I am not mistaken, the back plate helps you from damaging the MOBO.
