AMD X2 HDV Setup - Thoughts?
on Mar 4, 2006 at 3:50:44 am

Hey guys,

I wanna build this system in about 6 weeks time. Just waiting for the March 9th Geforce 7900 launch, and the April 23rd Pentium D "50%" price cuts (only cause I’m hoping this effects AMD prices cause no matter what, I'm still buying an X2 CPU)

Anyways, this is the system I plan to build. Just would like to know what you guys think. Especially about hard drive(s) and the whole “System/Capture/Render” theory.

I'm playing to edit HDV 720P @ 24FPS (shooting on JVC GY HD101E). Also, all these prices are in Australian Dollars, so they may seem a little "bloated"...

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe - $313.00

There have been some issues with the Antec p180 and the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe and seasonic PSUs involving the difficulty of power cables to reach. You may have to get some extender cables or something. You can do a google search, but see for example:

Also, from what I've read the X2 4400 has no meaningful performance gains over the 4200. The extra cache just doesnt' seem to make any difference. (the 4800 is also not significantly better than the 4600) I'd either spend a little more for the 4600, or save some money and get the 4200. Check out these benchmarks:
