Let me know what you guys think, I finally got a system together that is within my budget.
ASUS P5VD1-X motherboard
Intel D820 cpu
1 GB DDR PC3200 ram
ATI radeon 9500 pro (reuse from current system) has dual moniter output
reuse 80 gb hd.
The total cost for this upgrade is going to be around 360 bucks and with my spare parts I will be able have my current computer used by my parents.(they get the benefits of trickle downs from me) This will be quite a bit faster than my current configuration right?
Couple questions though,
How much performce am I going to loose by using DDR memory and not DDR2? I haven't seen much info regarding the difference between the two. I am saving 200 bucks by using an older motherboard and older card.
I have a couple of sticks of PC2100 256mb ram. Will I see a performance increase using this to up my memory to 1.5GB. I know that I need to keep like pairs together for the Dual channel to work correctly, just not sure if it is ok to mix the speed for banks. Will have 2 banks at 3200 and 2 at 2100. Is it even worth it to add the 2100 ram?
