animate drawing on the screen with a marker in Premiere?
on Jan 26, 2006 at 1:42:35 am

Does anyone know if it is possible to create animated effects in premiere as if someone were drawing on the screen with a maker to circle parts of the screen, or draw checkmarks, or underline text? Kind of like if someone were using a telestrator and wanted to draw the viewer's attention to a part of the screen? Maybe something that can be done with after effects or some plugin?

Hi grnarrow,

I know exactly what you mean. Something like drawing a chalk line on a board? Or drawing a flight path on the screen (e.g. in movies where they show an airplane flying across the globe, this effect is used).

Well, check out this article because I think it will help you out. But I think you need a combination of an image editor (e.g. Photoshop) and Premiere.

Thanks for the link.

That method may have some uses, but as the tutorial points out, what you're drawing cannot overlap itself. So for things like circling something on the screen, or writing in cursive script, where the 'pen' is going to cross over what's previously been written, that wouldn't work.

Anyone know any other methods, or plugins that can do this?

Hi grnarrow,

Not sure if you want to try out Adobe After Effects. It may have a plug-in.

Another way is to visit the following website, where tons of Adobe Premiere experts hang out:
