How split .avi file into several .avi clips?
on Nov 22, 2005 at 10:09:19 pm

Hi -- I'm beginning video work, especially taking care of and fixing up old 16mm and 8mm films that have been digitized into long .avi files.
For starters I want to divide these files into shorter workable pieces, each one an .avi file. Just splitting the file, no recoding, no quality loss.
I have access to the latest version of Adobe's video suite, including Premiere, but I don't seem to find a good way to do it. I can put a suitable part of the big file on the Timeline, but I don't see a way to just SaveAs it.
How can it be done, or is there other software that can do this seeming simple and basic task?
Please help, sverk

not sure which version you have but...edit in premiere then export as avi file you decide if you want to save the one clip or the whole timeline.

it will make a whole new file.

So look for the export choices

WinDV is a free utility that will capture and split up your AVI files.

I haven't used it yet but it was reccomended to me and I play on trying it.

You can read about it and download it at http://windv.mourek.cz/

Hope this helps.
