Motherboard reccomendations???
on Oct 6, 2005 at 4:35:39 pm

I'm looking for what would be the best motherboard to use in a video editing system? Single, dual, quad processors? And what is the advantage of Dual core? (This will be the first system I have assembled myself)

Thanks!

A better question is what is the best MOBO for my XYZ video capture card or best MOBO for XYZ NLE software. Based on: I plan to do ABC and XYZ. (ie basic editing, or graphic animation rendering, etc..

the first thing you need to do is check the manufactures' recommendation.. then come here and see what others have done.

Good point, I probably should have added that in my initial post. I plan on using a Matrox capture card with Adobe Premier Pro.
Graphic animation rendering will be a must.

I am currently looking at:

Supermicro X6DAL-G Dual Xeon 800FSB with dual Xeon 3.0GHz/800Mhz FSB 1MB cache

2GB of 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Corsair RAM

ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256M GDDR3 Video Card (for dual monitors)

Matrox RT X100

Western Digital Raptor WD360GD 36.7GB 10k RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 (System HD)

Western Digital 250GB Serial ATA HDD 7.2k RPM 8MB WD2500JD (Video HD)

(2) Toshiba SDR5372-TA 16X Dual Layer DVD Rewritable Drives

Codengen Silver ATX Mid Tower Case Model "E-6097-C9-W/O"
w/550w dual fan power supply

Windows XP Pro

Adobe Premier Pro

Any thoughts???

Thanks!

I am not familar with matrox capture card., but it sounds good. I dont do graphic animations, other than moving text, but make sure the program you create it in... will love your video card, escpecially if it uses the card's resources.

I would highly recommend at least another 250GB video drive. I couldn't imagine working with just 1.

I have 2 200GB and 2 250GB drives for video storage, 2 250GB drives for music storage and a 250GB for the system drive.

Space comes in handy because you don't want to bog down the system or any one particular drive. It...makes......things....slow.
