Do I need a video capture card?
on Aug 5, 2005 at 3:59:00 am

I am buying a new HP system, it says its setup for multimedia. It comes with firewire, composite, and S viedo inputs. Does this mean that it has a video capture card? I've been looking a the Matrox RT.X 100. Do I need it?
Thank for any help

"Setup for multimedia" means that its a fancy consumer computer with consumer capabilities that they charge more for. It's nothing special.
It probably uses the video card to ingest your footage. If you are looking for quality, that's not the best solution.

Do you NEED the Matrox RTX100? Well, it would be a monumental step up from whatever comes on the HP, I can assure you. If you don't own any video editing software, and you can afford it, the RTX card would be a great way to get into editing. There are many videographers and even people in broadcast situations that we've built workstations for using the RTX100, running businesses and making money.

Doesn't this depend on whether you are capturing from an analog or digital source?
