The question is.. has anyone built one? Does it work with Premiere Pro 1.5?
I am thinking
Gigabyte 81955x Royal $220 -OR- 81945P Pro (945 chipset similar to 955x) $150
-OR- ASUS P5WD2 $225
P4 640 3.2 Ghz (dual core) $260
Corsair 5400UL 2x 512Meg 675MHz latency 3 2 2 8 $250
ATI FireGL V3100 (certified for PP 1.5) ~400MHz $160
an 80Gig Sata II OS drive
Will PP 1.5 work with these Mobo’s modern Sound cards?
Will WinXP home and or PP1.5 utilize the dual core CPU?
Adobe never mentions a thing on their website of compatible chipsets or other computer hardware. (Doesn’t even mention what to stay away from.)
I have built this which works really nice, although I admit it was a worry giving most of it was untested from a compatability perspective.
ASUS P5WD2 Premium
4 GB Giel
2 x WD Raptor SATA 74GB (1 as system 1 as video capture)
2 x Seagate SATA 400GB (1 as video scratch 1 as archive)
Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinum
2Themax 600W PSU
ATI X850XT graphics card
And to really push my luck, I put a Matrox RTX100 in! This is with PP1.5.1 and all the rest of the suite that comes with the Matrox. On top of that, I even just stuck the Matox into the last PCI as it is a very long card and sat right over the SATA ports which was a problem as i am using all 4!
This is on WinXP SP2 +++ in terms of patches, firmware upgrades and everything else I could find. There's not much else on it except A/V, anti spyware and similar background tasks which are usually nasty but don't appear to have any effect (so far?).
Apart from finding during the initial install of WinXP that I had a bad stick of memory (cost me about 36 hours to figure that and MANY install/uninstall of XP) everything just seemed to fall into place.
Matrox says their card will not work with the onboard sound (hence my Audigy) but don't think that will worry PP on its own. I don't think the 640 is dual core but it is HT and when I asked same thing was told PP will use itself but the Matrox reduces the need.
Your right I goofed in my research the Pent. 640 chip isn't dual core it is HT.
I thought that price was pretty cheap to be dual core.
Maybe I will go with the Pent 830. looks like it's going for around $350, but missing HT.
