I am having trouble finding software that will allow a direct or indirect recording from a Sony Handycam DV (dcr-dvd403) to a standard DVD on a computer. The software from Sony only allows recording back to a Mini DVD on the camera. I have tried various Video Editing and DVD programs but none of them "see" the camera or allow me to capture the video. The Sony software allows me to capture the video but not burn it to the computer's DVD, only the camera's. I am trying to set this up for a friend...I have a Canon Camera that uses tape and I can easily capture video and control the camera with the computer using a firewire conection. The Sony however does not seem to have firewire capabilities, only USB. Would a USB video capture device and using the rca plugs be a work around or is this stepping backwards. Any other advice would be great.
