I'm new to video editing. I have an HP laptop Athlon 64 3400 processor, 1gb memory, 80 gb hard drive, Nvidea card 64mb dedicated, and a 250gb WD 7200 rpm HD in a USB/FW400 external case. I am capturing by firewire into my single built in FW port. I would like to capture video from my camcorder directly to my external hard drive, so I plan to buy a PC card to go into go into the card slot on my laptop and give me a few additional FW ports. I have been told that running more than one FW device at a time can cause problems. If that is the case then what is the preffered way to capture to my external. I have additional USB's but I'm concerned about transfer rates and lost frames. Currently using Adobe Premier Elements. Anyone have any advice or experience with this?
