Does this PC configuration look ok?
on Apr 22, 2005 at 6:05:21 pm

I am trying to map out the PC I want to build and am looking for opinions/suggestions regarding these components:

Aspire X-Navigator Aluminum ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Front USB and Firewire Ports, Built-in Fan Controller and 500-Watt Power Supply

Intel D915PBLL Socket 775 ATX Motherboard and Intel Pentium 4 540 3.2Ghz Processor

Ultra 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz Memory (x2)

Maxtor / 250GB / 7200 / 8MB / SATA-150 / OEM / Hard Drive (x2)

eVGA GeForce 6800 GT / 256MB DDR3 / PCI Express / Dual DVI / TV Out / Video Card

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 OEM Sound Card

SONY DRU720A / 16x8x16x DVD+RW / 16x6x16x DVD-RW / 4x DVD+RW
DL / 48x24x40x CD-RW / Internal DVD±RW Burner

SONY 16x internal DVD+/-R Burner OEM

Sony 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive

Amptron CT-726A / 17-inch / 16ms / 1280 x 1024 / Silver/Black / LCD Monitor (x2)

Logitech Cordless Desktop EX100 Keyboard and Mouse Combo

Creative Labs I-TRIGUE 3400 Speaker System

This PC will be used 100% for video editing only and I currently use Pinnacle 9 plus, with possible intentions to move up to LE.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Nice system - now put it to use. Cool

Upgrade to[url=http://www.videoguys.com/edition.html] Liquid Edition for $299.95. You'll see you can be far more creative, and in this system, your real-time performance will be outstanding!!

Why use a high end gaming graphics card, if it's only for video editing?

Are you using different disks for windows and video? You must. I'd have those 2 disks you got there, and a seperate disk (needen't be a high end one) for windows and storage, say 160gb.

Liquid Edition takes full advantage of your 3D graphics card. The more powerful the card, the more performance LE 6 will give you. For HDV editing it is recommended to have a 256 meg 3D card.

Exactly, gaming cards need not apply.

So, if we went with a higher-end video card, say an Nvida 3400, what NTSC out card would you recommend? Ideally, I'd like to be able to preview to NTSC without rendering, or with minimal rendering delay on a dual 3.6 xeon.
