I'm new to NLE but need a system for multiple forthcoming HD projects. At first they will be HDV (or whatever Panasonic's response to HDV is) but I'd also like the ability to work with uncompressed HDSDI off an F900. This system will run Avid Xpress Studio Complete. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Tyan Thunder K8WE nForce4 (Dual Socket 940, SLI)
2 x AMD Opteron 248s (will get dual cores later this year)
2 x Cooler Master Hyper 6 Coolers
2 GB PC-3200 REG ECC Corsair 2-3-2-6 (need 4GB?)
nVidia Quadro FX 3400
(Will 2 of these in SLI benefit me for NLE? Or overkill?)
Lian Li PC-V1200 Aluminum Case
Enermax EMX-EG851AX-VH 660W EPS12V Power Supply (may be a problem)
4 x Lite On SOHW-1673S DVD Burners (+ PCI IDE controller)
1 x Western Digital 74GB Raptor SATA 10kRPM Main Drive
2 x 500GB Hitachi T7K250 SATA2 7200RPM 500GB RAID0 Editing Drives
1 x 500GB Hitachi T7K250 SATA2 7200RPM 500GB RAID0 Storage Drive
(Will get an external array if a project calls for it.)
2 x Dell 24” Widescreen 2405FPW Monitors
(Too much real estate?)
1 x Sony 23" Professional HDTV Monitor
BlueSky MediaDesk 2.1 Monitors (Speakers)
SB Audigy 2 ZS (Needed with Avid Studio Complete?)

One more question. Mojo is not HDSDI capable. Does anyone know if it's possible to import uncompressed HDSDI on a Canopus card, then edit it in Xpress Pro? Thanks.

Give me a price tag on that system. I mean dear lord that has a lot of power to it. I don't care about the peripheals though I just want to know the price of the pc itself. Two 248 opterons cost about $439 and thats on pricewatch.

Just a small question: a one disk striped array for storage? And if it's a storage drive, why would it be RAID 0? Sorry, maybe I'm missing something.

SLI will benefit hardcore gaming and 3D animation. Have you considered dual Xeon's? In the area of video editing, the dual Xeon's have proven themselves time and time again. Don't get me wrong, the AMD's are awesome, for the right application. We've seen the Opteron's biggest advantages, in general, in the area of 3D rendering, animation, and for a lot of backend server operations.
