how to use Dual monitors with geforce 6600
on Mar 7, 2005 at 5:14:37 pm

i have two crts monitors and want to get geforce 6600 or radeon x700 vid cards rather than more expensive 6800 and quadro cards and cant find quadro540.
Do i have to get an adapter of some sort to run dual monitors or just plug them both in?
It doesn't appear to me that either have dual monitor inputs.
looks like only one monitor in.

thanks

The Videoguys have a great deal on the 540! See above
Search for "quadro"

The 6600 has dual monitor outputs, and a special SVGA OUT, that comes with an adapter to split the signal into SVGA, Composite Video.

The card comes with a DVI to VGA adapter that allows you to plug in a monitor to the DVI input. Allowing you to have a VGA monitor in the VGA port and a VGA monitor in the DVI port simultaneously. The problem is that only one of the monitor outputs can handle the special Open GL, GEFORCE rendering, and the memory on the card is only 128MB.

The drivers that come with the card then give you the ability to toggle dual monitor support.

Thank you very much, that is what i was wanting to know.
How big of a problem is --only one monitor being able to handle Open GL-?
Will this make using dual monitors impossible for video editing or just limit the playback on one of the monitors?

thanks

Mainly, the problem comes up when your gaming. For video editing, just know which vga port has the enhanched open GL and move your playback window to that monitor, use the other monitor for toolbars, and windows other than video playback.
