Dell Dim. 8400 or DIY configuration?
on Feb 19, 2005 at 1:40:54 pm

I am choosing between Dell Dimension 8400 (highly recommended by Videoguys) and a locally-built computer (with Videoguys' specs). Here are the specs of both.

Dell is $1444 (a low price right now):
P4 540 w/ HT 3.2Ghz, 800FSB
1 GIG RAM (2x512)
80 GIG SATA hard drive (7200 rpm)
250 GIG external (7200 rpm)
128MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X300SE
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS(D) card
Dual Drives 16x DVD ROM + 48x CD-RW
Floppy
17 inch monitor

Local is $1655
Enlight box
ASUS P4C800-EDeluxe Motherboard
Same processor (not sure if HT)
same RAM
80 SATA
160 SATA (2d internal drive)
nVidia FX 5700 256 MB card
sound is integrated on mobo
similar optical
floppy
17 inch monitor

Any advice is appreciated!!!!!

Hi, What ever system you go for you need to make sure you have a AGP slot for the Video capture card or Video/monitor card. I went with a Dell and found that it had on-board sound (which is not a train smash) and video with AGP slot for my Matrox capture card!!
