Matrox Display and Capture Hardware.
on Feb 15, 2005 at 5:47:19 am

Hello,

I'm new here and this is quite a place to gather information. I retired after 34 years in the steel mill and I've often thought about building my own computer. As some other folks here I'm learning about and will pursue VHS to DVD work. I'm needing some information so I'll lay out what I have already.
ASUS P4C800-E Motherboard
Pentium 4 3.2Ghz CPU
2 GB Kingston DDR
Antec Neo Power 480 Power Supply
KingWin Mid Tower Case

I will purchase the Matrox RTX100 Xtreme Pro Suite. I'll assume this capture card is fitted into a PCI slot? Next I'll get the AGP 8X graphics card. Matrox Web Site suggested using the Parahelia or Millenium P series Matrox cards in conjunction with the X100 capture card. I'm confused about the type of card the X100 is since there is one AGP slot on the motherboard. Also could you suggest alternate graphics cards that would work well also? Thank you and it's great to be here.

the RTX100 is a PCI card. Matrox recommends using their own video cards with the RTX100 but their web site has a list of other compatible cards (http://www.matrox.com/video/support/rtx100xtremepro/rec/display.cfm). also check out our DIY article where we used the motherboard you're using at http://www.videoguys.com/DIY.html.

Thank You,

I investigated the Matrox suggested cards for compatability. Perhaps you can help me here. The ATI Radeon 9800Pro in the 256Mb. version is difficult to track down. It appears most places are in waiting. There is a Sapphire/ATI 9800Pro 256Mb out there for purchase. Is this the same as the ATI product? Would it be correct to assume that if the chip set is the same then it should be compatible?

Thanks,
Bill

I think sometimes other manufacturer's differ from ATI's reference design.

You're probably best off getting the Built by ATI product.
