DV Player for Capturing

Sony once had nice little DV players which fit into a computer CDROM Bay. I do not see these any more and it seem it was discontinued. Any advice on a cheap DV player for use in DV capturing rather than using my camera and shortening its headlife

Cheap is relative but I use their mini DV VCR which has its own built in screen and can be used like any other VCR but also to interface through a firewire to the computer. I have had it for three or four years now and has given little trouble. It is the GV-D900 and at the time cost about a grand.

I have just checked at Amazon and it appears that the product has been discontinued but you can buy a used one for ...wait for it $2,000!!!

Must be good. Certainly I wouldn't sell mine

Has anyone tried the JVC HR-DVS3 for this purpose?

I picked up a Sony PC-9 Camera that I dedicated to computer support... Cost $400.
