Pent 4 Prescott Core runs too hot??
on Feb 1, 2005 at 1:18:16 am

I was reading reviews on newegg here:

http://secure.newegg.com/app/CustratingReview.asp?DEPA=1&item=19-116-17...

about the Intel Pentium 4 3+Ghz with the Prescott Core running really really hot - I can imagine that video encoding will really cause it to heat more than normal - am I right? Should I not go with the Prescott?

Or maybe I should just ask what's the best chip to buy in the $200 range right now for video encoding?

Mike

I'm using an ASUS P5AD2 Premium (or Deluxe, I forget) motherboard with a prescott 775 3.4Ghz CPU overclocked to 3.83Ghz/900Mhz FSB, and it runs at it's hottest at 110F (actual on-die temp may be slightly hotter) I'm using a Koolance EXOS lqiuid cooling system - the factory fan does suck, so if you don't wanna melt your case insides, go liquid, or avoid the Prescott.
