Canopus advc100....getting a hum
on Aug 2, 2004 at 4:19:30 pm

Ive had my advc100 for a couple of years, and love it. yesterday when i went to put something to a vhs tape, i noticed there was a hum.
what ive tried:
-different rca cable
-different firewire cable
-going into a tv instead of vcr

the hum is even there when it is completely hooked up and on, but the computer is off.

anyone ever seen this problem or have any ideas what I can check?

Few things to try.

Make sure your AC adaptor is not faulty. DC smoothing capacitors will cause ac ripple on dc voltages if they go low in value or open circuit. This will show up as hum on the audio or worse still black shaded bands on the video.

Move the RCA and Firewire cables to different positions, does this reduce the effect?

Move the ADVC 100 to a dufferent position, may be picking up AC mains interference.

Hope this helps.
