From analog to DV
on Jul 30, 2004 at 6:26:36 pm

hey guys, wonderfull website here.
I had a question about going from analog tapes to DV.

My company is looking to start production on some DVD's with information in regards to our products and some video demo's we have and such.

In the past we have used Analog VHS editing software and such and has worked great, but with the trends leaning more towards DVD its about high time we switched.

What would be a easy and hopefully not to troublesome way to get our old VHS demo tapes converted over to DVD format? hardware needs? Software needs? And the like.

One thing that we are looking at getting is the Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro Suite. That seems to have just about everything we need in it to make at the very least a nice looking dvd.
Will that right there do what were looking to have done?

The RT.X100 will easily do what you want, and it will do about as good a job digitizing your analog video as possible, but you may not be happy with the results. Standard Play VHS is only about 230 lines of resolution, while a DVD is 500 lines. A DVD mastered from a VHS tape will look as soft as a VHS tape. Newer video shot on DV will look a lot better.
