SATA and Windows XP
on Apr 14, 2004 at 9:15:03 pm

I built a unit with the same components as Jon except for the case and HD brands. Everything went well until I tried to install XP on the SATA drive. It will not make it thru install. It freezes at various places. I noticed that seejay1031 said to put SATA drivers on a floppy but I don't know what to do with the floppy. What should I do?

Dave

Sorry if this is a little late.

On my board (ASUS P4S800d-E Deluxe) The SATA drivers which were also the SATA RAID Drivers were on the Motherboard install CD. I had to transfer them to floppy on another machine, then move the floppy to the new machine. When loading the XP install disk it should prompt you to push F4 or something (one of the F-keys). THis allows you to install the drivers for windows so that you can install windows on your new SATA drives.

Good luck

Just to let you know... It was a defective MB. The replacement loaded just fine. All is well. Thank you for the help. Dave
