Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe
on Mar 26, 2004 at 7:52:38 pm

I have been considering this board since its cheaper than the P4C800 and the new SiS655TX chip set has been getting good reviews. I'd like to know other people's thoughts.

Thanks!

Dave

I just built the following system last week (first build)

Apsire Case (built in power supply) - 39.00
ASUS P4S800D-E DELUXE (SIS655TX) - 104.99
CPU P4/2.8EGHz 800M 478P/1MB HT RT - 192.00
DDRAM 512M|PC-3200 MUSHKIN RAM X2= 1 gig- 170.00
HD 160GB|SEAGATE 7200 ST3160023AS SATA - 124.00
HD 80GB|WD 7200 WD800JD 8MB SATA- 83.00
APOLLO|RADEON 9200SE 128M TV DVI+VGA -49.50
XP PRO STUDENT UPGRADE- 85.00
Total- $847.49

The system so far works great. Just remember to copy the SATA drivers on the CD over to a floppy on another machine before you try and load windows.

I like the motherboard alot. 4 SATA ports, built in firewire, support for the new prescott core, 800 mhz FSB- all for about $100! Plus in all the reviews I read that compared benchmarks, the Sis655TX chipset actually beat the intel 875P chipset on most tests.
yeah I'd buy it again.

Thanks very much for your post. Based on your report I have moved back to this board from the Giga-byte GA-7N400 pro2 board I was thinking about.

I was going to go Athlon XP, but I've decided that P4 with Hyperthreading is going to give me more room to grow.

Thanks very much and I'll let you know how things go.

Wow it was April when I started all this! I finally got ram and a processor and I put the whole thing together. I got the "fans-no-post" kiss of death. Long story short I'm RMA'ing the board back. I'm still sticking with it and I hope the next board is ok. Maybe by Christmas I'll have a machine I can check email with and edit my home movies with!

Make sure you get the RAM pushed in all the way and in tightly til it clicks! Hope the next Mobo installation process goes more smoothly.
