need to capture from canon zr70
on Nov 29, 2004 at 12:58:52 am

Got this great camera (Canon ZR70). Have taken great footage. Now can't the silly thing to download the stuff to my computer. I've gotten the driver from Canon, etc., but my Windows ME won't recognize it as a video device. Any helpful hints?

The Canon website talked about "Zoombrowser EX", but of course, I don't have this CD because I got the camcorder second hand. And of course, you cannot download the software from Canon, only updates. Anyone know where else I should look for it? Thanks.

What video editing program are you using? Does your computer show your
fire wire as working properly?

I'm using Ulead Studio 8.0 (from download.com) on trial basis. Also tried MS Moviemaker. No avail.

No fire wire present; it's USB connected. The ME system tools show the USB port working properly, but does not read any device attached when camera is on and connected.

Both the camcorder and software were designed to transfer video captured on tape to the computer using fire wire not USB.

It didn't come with a fire wire. It came with a USB cord. Now what do I do?

If you have a firewire port on your computer, you just need a firewire cable. My Canon ZR 40 came with a 4-pin to 6-pin fire wire cable. The camcorder is connected to the 4-pin end and the computer to the 6-pin end. If you don't have a firewire port, then you need to install a firewire card.

You can download the ZR 70 manual from the Canon USA site here

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=SupportDetailAct&fcateg...

and the Video Studio 8 manual from the Ulead site.
