Dropping Frames/Killing capture in premiere pro
on Jun 13, 2004 at 5:00:50 am

On average I drop 1 frame every 10 min. Im using sending it all to a master hd thats only used for capture. because of many long captures I dont want to have to worry about dropping frames. Is it innevitable? Is it the Tapes. Could it be dropping when i stop and start recording from the camera. This is an ongoing question I have had. I know 1 frame doesnt seem like alot but after an hour of capture, i dont want to drop between 10 to 20 frames. Also, From time to time, Capture just stops in premiere pro, Could this be because when i stop shooting and the record again there is space between the shots and premiere loses a timecode?
Im baffled, this could be nonsense jibberish but If it is, I would still appreciate some replies, thanks.

What capture card are you using? What is your operating system? What other programs are running in the background? How is your HDD physically arranged in your computer.

Just for reference, I can capture a full 120 min DV tape with 0 dropped frames. 1.33MHz Athalon System, ADS Pyro IEEE1394 board.

My Adaptec IEEE1394 would drop frames on output. Running IE explorer would drop frames. ULEAD MSP 7.0 sometimes locked up during capture and/or output.

I now use Scenealyzer for capture and output, and ULEAD MSP 7.0 for editing.

I hope some of this helps your trouble shooting.
