Storing DVD's on your H/D as Video Server
on Jun 5, 2004 at 6:21:18 pm

Hello all Videophiles out there?

I'd like to store my DVD Movies on a PC with the use of a RAID 0 drives (5) 120GB drives expandable to 1 TB (terabyte=1000GB)

My idea is to use a DVD Rom as the reader, store the movies as MP2 files on a RAID, stripped as RAID 0! Now I have a Media Server conneted via 100MB Fast Ethernet CAT5 or CAT6 cabling to Media Recievers connected to rooms in my house (Check out Sound & Vision June 2004 pgs 85-87).

Has anyone tried this? And Ideas or suggestions?

http://www.kaleidescape.com makes a Media Server/Media Recievers But the cost is $40,000 less than .0001 of the world population could afford this cash outlay.

Thanks

Jeff

Great Idea, but 100Mb is too slow. You will probably want a Giganet Connection.

I found that I needed to download the movie from my server to the machine I wanted to view the movie on because of the bandwidth limitation. Your mileage may differ.
