Questions about firewire drive storage
on Jun 2, 2004 at 12:53:40 pm

Howdy all,

Just have a few questions about firewire capable drives. We currently have three Canon GL-1's and with the availability of 60 and 80 min. tapes, we have problems taping long programs such as plays and other productions. What I was wondering was how to the external firewire drives compare to using standard desktop editing? Can they be used in place of tape? Where can I find various models/types to compare pricing? Thanks for the help.

On a side note, does anyone make a remote zoom, focus, pause, record device for the Canon GL-1's? Thanks.

If you want to keep the DateTimeCode, you will still need a tape in the machine. If you don't need that, then you can run the DV out directly to the FireWire Drive and you will need to control the start and stop recording on the drive itself. (Basically just video out, but in DV format).
