Newbie Needs Software/Hardware Recommendatios

Greetings all. During the week I'm a Network Tech but on the weekends I skydive. This year I will become a videographer in the sky and wannabee DV editor. I know hardware but not in the DV editing sense. I have an IBM Pro M Intellistation w/Dual P4 Xeon 1.7's, SCSI drives which will hold a max of 4GB of RDRAM. Is this machine not up to par and is it correct that 1st I pick out the software I want to use and then build the hardware to match my choice? If so please recommend software editing package and hardware style to match. I may never do this for a living but what I do I want to do well. Adobe Premiere Pro? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

I think that you'll find your machine is fast enough for you to do what you want. Check out Premeire Pro, Vegas and Pinnacle Liquid Edition. Check out this article that compares all three http://www.videoguys.com/RT5.html
