Analog>AVI>Store in what format for future e
on Jan 25, 2004 at 3:59:23 pm

I want to capture about 60 hours of 8mm, cut the garbage out, label and store the segments for future movie making...storing the video on blank DVD discs. I was advised to store the video in DV as it is easier to edit from later from any one of the many editing software packages I might be using in the future.

So far I have tried this in Studio 8 and Movie Maker, and as soon as I make a single edit and save (DV), I lose all my recognized clip starts. Ideally the segment starts would be recognized after, making my future editing much easier.

Is DV the right format?
Why would I capture in such a high resolution if what I started from is only analog?
Other suggestions and comments appreciated!
