FRAMES AND FIELDS
on Oct 25, 2003 at 11:15:04 pm

I'm confused about the subject issue.
Have a Matrox 450 e-tv card with instruction saying to render in "Field Order B". I also have found that various DV capture programs capture "Field Order A".
Should I hence capture field order A and then render with field order B to record to tape?. Or what?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

One should choose the FIELD ORDER setting based on the capture device that was used.

For example, if one uses an OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 controller card for capture, then one should choose a FIELD ORDER A editing template.

On the other hand, if one uses an analog capture device, then one should choose a FIELD ORDER B editing template.

If one acquires video recorded by Panasonic player/recorders, then one should choose a FIELD ORDER B editing template.

The correct choice hinges on the capture device that was used.

If one is editing a video that will be viewed only on computer screens, then one could choose a FRAME-BASED editing template.

Hope this helps,
