help editing moving subjects

I do a lot of railroad videos and have a high end dell computer. The "my dvd" by sonic and roxio videoway is on it. I'm using a convertor that came with by dell that changes analog video to be abled to view on the computer to burn onto dvds. When i play back the video on the computer the train and scenery are crystal clear, but, when the train gets closer and i zoom out as it passes the numbers on the side of the engine blur and run into each other. When play back of the video on the 8mm hi-8 cannon or playback from the 8mm transferred onto vhs tape(10 cent vhs tape to $8.00 tape) the playback is perfect not one blurr or inperfection. Tried panning the engines seemed to help ,but don't want a video that has the same view all the time.I know the colors of the numbers affect the image but I tried all different angles and lenses and different color numbers on the train all the same results.
Bother going tape to tape analog or a different card. Please help....Thanks.......
