Video Card: Matrox G550 vs. Gigabyte 9000 Pro
on May 28, 2003 at 7:13:48 am

hey guys
im after a video card for my computer
its just a desktop computer that i plan on doing some video editing on.

my choice has come down to the Matrox G550 http://www.matrox.com/mga/products/mill_g550/home.cfm

or the Gigabyte GV-R9000 Pro
http://www.giga-byte.com/VGA/Products/Products_GV-R9000%20PRO%20II.htm

i see quite a few people mention they have a G550 and they really like it, but there are also alot of people with ati based cards

are they duelhead features on both of these cards similar?
i was thinking that because the 9000 pro is 128mb vs the G550 32mb that the 9000 pro would be best but i would like a second opinion
thanks
mike

If you're going to buy a Matrox RT.X100 or X10, I strongly recommend using a Matrox-approved video board, like the G550, although you'll also need to meet very strict compatibility for a realtime video digitizer. I'm using a G550 with my X100.

Video editing does not require nor utilize a high-powered 3-d video board. You only need the high-end 3-d boards to play video games.

i dont play on buying a real time capture card
i just planed on using the firewire on the motherboard to capture and when i want to render just leave it over night.

after reading around i have come to the conclusion that the matrox G550 is a great 2D card, but as i am after an alround card for editing and playing some games i have decided to get the 9000 pro

thanks
mike
