Video Transfer thru USB cable
on May 11, 2003 at 10:08:45 pm

Hi,
I am planning to buy a Mini DV camcorder in which i would like to transfer the video to a computer.I know that this can be done using the Firewire port which is available on almost all camcorders.

Can i transfer the video stored on the Mini DV to the computer using the USB cable ,because my computer has only USB and no Firewire ??

My understanding from the specs is that u can transfer ONLY still images (that are recorded on the memory card, and not on Mini DV) using USB.Please enlighten me on this.I am confused because my friend told me that he has seen video being transferred "live" to the computer using an USB cable, but this was for a Digital8 camcorder.

Also, is there any kind of external adapter that can convert the Firewire to USB.I mean it should be standalone and not a card that you have to plug-in to the computer.

Any tips on the above problems would be most welcome.
Thanks,
Joseph

USB2 is faster than the present Firewire, but not that many devices have it yet. You may only have USB1, which is too slow.
